چکیده

29 Recent developments of remote sensing methods for Earth satellite data analysis 30 contribute to our understanding of earthquake related thermal anomalies. It was realized 31 that the thermal heat fluxes over areas of earthquake preparation is a result of air 32 ionization by radon (and other gases) and consequent water vapor condensation on newly 33 formed ions. Latent heat (LH) is released as a result of this process and leads to the 34 formation of local thermal radiation anomalies (TRA) known as OLR (outgoing 35 Longwave radiation, Ouzounov et al, 2007). We compare the LH energy, obtained by 36 integrating surface latent heat flux (SLHF) over the area and time with released energies 37 associated with these events. Extended studies of the TRA using the data from the most 38 recent major earthquakes allowed establishing the main morphological features. It was 39 also established that the TRA are the part of more complex chain of the short-term pre40 earthquake generation, which is explained within the framework of a lithosphere41 atmosphere coupling processes. 42 43 List of Acronyms: 44 AVHHRAdvanced Very High Resolution Radiometer( NOAA) 45 ACPAtmospheric chemical potential 46 EMSCEuropean-Mediterranean Seismological Centre 47 EOS Earth Observation System (NASA) 48 AIRS –Atmospheric Infrared Sounder (NASA) 49 EQ-earthquake 50 GMSD –IGS GPS station in Japan 51 GOES Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (NOAA) 52 ISTFIntegrated satellite and terrestrial framework 53 LAICLithosphere-Atmosphere-Ionosphere Coupling 54 LH – Latent heat 55 LWR – Long wave radiation 56 LAIMC Lithosphere-Atmosphere-Ionosphere-Magnetosphere Coupling 57 POES Polar Operational Environmental Satellites (NOAA) 58 OLR –Outgoing Longwave Radiation 59 RSTRobust Satellite technique 60 STIRSatellite thermal infrared radiation 61 SW –short wave radiation 62 TIR-Thermal Infrared radiation 63 TOA – Top of the Atmosphere 64 USGS-US Geological Survey 65 66 67 68

Thermal Infrared Anomalies of Several Strong Earthquakes

In the history of earthquake thermal infrared research, it is undeniable that before and after strong earthquakes there are significant thermal infrared anomalies which have been interpreted as preseismic precursor in earthquake prediction and forecasting. In this paper, we studied the characteristics of thermal radiation observed before and after the 8 great earthquakes with magnitude up to Ms...

Thermal anomalies detection before earthquake using three filters (Fourier, Wavelet and Logarithmic Differential Filter), A Case Study of two Earthquakes in Iran

Earthquake is one of the most destructive natural phenomena which has human and financial losses. The existence of an efficient prediction system and early warning system will be useful for reducing effects of destroying earthquake. In this research, the soil temperature time-series data, obtained from three meteorological station, using three filters (Fourier, Wavelet and Logarithmic Different...

Study on Thermal Anomalies of Earthquake Process by Using Tidal- Force and Outgoing-longwave-radiation

Four earthquakes above M5.0 in Yunnan and Tibet, China occurred from 2010 to 2011. By calculating the tidal-force changes induced by celestial bodies in this region, we found that the earthquakes occurred when tidal forces continuously grew from low to peak levels and approached the maximum amplitude phase, which indicated a tidal force that had a trigger or inducing effect of active tectonic e...

Anomalous increase of chlorophyll concentrations associated with earthquakes

Recent studies have shown land, ocean, atmosphere and ionospheric anomalies prior to earthquakes. The optical and microwave sensors onboard satellites are now capable of monitoring land, ocean, atmosphere and ionosphere which provide changes associated with natural hazards. In this paper, we have analyzed remote sensing data of the ocean coasts lying near the epicenters of recent four major ear...

An Attempt to Predict Earthquake with Satellite Data

In 1980's Russian scientist Gorny found some short lived thermal anomalies from satellite image before earthquake in central Asia [1], Since then many scientists began to study this thermal anomaly with satellite data in China, Japan, India, Iran and Algerian earthquakes [2][3][4][5]. Ouzounov [6] used outgoing long wave earth radiation (OLR) data and studied the OLR anomalous variations prior ...
